Let’s get the bad news out of the way first, dear friends.  I won’t say that I backslid, exactly.  Nor have I reneged on my “no mas” manifesto.  Every word I wrote almost three weeks ago, I mean now as much as I meant then.  I have, however, underestimated just how easily I can fall back into stubborn despair, and how hard I will have to work to keep from doing this.  To put it mildly, it was not a good week.  It had got off to a good start:  On Monday I took a vacation day from LuthorCorp to travel with the brilliant and talented Ragnvaeig up to Norwalk, where we went to Penzeys and touched everything in the store before deciding what to buy.  I know that not every week can start with a road trip where you laugh from start to finish, talk the talk of spice geeks and come home in much better shape than you left, but really, every week should.  Coming off a grueling week at a LuthorCorp plant in suburban Philadelphia, where I spent a week helping to get a new computer system up to speed, I felt renewed, fortified by good company and Mexican vanilla beans, ready to go back to the cubicle and kick the stuffing out of that which would make me miserable.

On Tuesday, I went back to work.

That’s about all that need be said about that, or about the rest of the week that followed.  Really, there isn’t much point.

The good news is that the week was much more than the sum total of four rotten days at work.  Really.

the start of something else

(to be continued...)
